Do you ever feel like sometimes you are so concerned about everything and everyone else that you forget about taking care of yourself?
August has been a challenging month for me: ups, downs and everything in-between. In both my personal and professional life – they have been extremely demanding of my time, skills and capabilities (more like a complete shake up in my work-life balance). Although I had a lot to deal with I still felt that I had to complete and attend to all my regular commitments as normal.
This put a strain on my well-being, by trying to handle everything I would sometimes end up feeling completely drained - emotionally and physically. Dealing with life challenges while still continuing with daily activities, taking on projects and attending meetings took its toll on me.
I don’t know if it’s just me or if anyone else can relate to feeling the need to do everything (i.e carry on as normal) even if your current circumstances prevent you from simply carrying on. I felt guilty about letting people down and going against my word. I was worried about what they might think of me if I took a step back: they might think that I’m not reliable and they cannot count on me.
Then, like a light bulb it hit me:
Sometimes you need to have compassion for yourself and stop feeling guilty about what people think of you when they don’t even know your journey.
So I realized that even though I was so concerned about all my commitments and what others might think of me, it is of the utmost importance that I take care of myself first! Taking care of me ensures that I am in good shape: mentally and physically to do all the things that I need to do.
As always love, comment and share!
